The Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA)<\/strong> is a synthetic resin obtained by the saponification of polyvinyl acetate<\/strong>. It is widely used for preparing aqueous adhesive solutions<\/strong>, as protective varnish for metals<\/strong> and as consolidant for paint layers<\/strong>, especially in conditions of increased humidity.<\/p>\n

It dissolves fully in water and partially in ethanol and methanol, while it is insoluble in organic solvents<\/strong>. The films it forms are stable, transparent and optically neutral<\/strong>, a characteristic that makes it particularly useful in the conservation of works of art and archival materials.<\/p>\n
