Ecosurf™ EH-6 (Dow): a non-ionic surfactant of the ethoxylated-propoxylated 2-ethylhexanol type. It is readily biodegradable and free of alkylphenols, which is why it is widely used as a substitute for Triton X-100 in aqueous cleaning solutions for paintings and polychromy.
- Form: clear liquid, fully miscible with water
- Uses: wetting agent in aqueous cleaning solutions (typically 0.05–0.5%), in emulsions and gels, to improve wetting of hydrophobic surfaces
- Low foaming; residues are easily removed by rinsing
