The Klucel G are non-ionic hydroxypropyl cellulose, with excellent versatility in the conservation of works of art and archival material. It is soluble in water and most polar organic solvents, while remaining insoluble in many non-polar organic solvents.
Exhibits excellent compatibility with natural gums, starches, as well as with acrylic and vinyl emulsions, which makes it particularly useful in complex or combined bonding and consolidation systems.
Klucel G contains no plasticisers and, after drying, remains water-reversible, a characteristic of critical importance for conservation treatments.
Used:
-
for consolidation of paint layers, including pastels,
-
as adhesive for paper and book materials,
-
as thickening agent for the preparation alcohol or hydroalcoholic gels at concentrations 3–5%.
