
Kremer Ammonium Bicarbonate
A mildly alkaline salt for aqueous cleaning poultices (AB57) on stone, wall paintings and mortars; evaporates without residue.
You may also need
Ammonium bicarbonate (NH4HCO3, CAS 1066-33-7) from Kremer Pigmente, white crystalline powder. In aqueous solution it gives a mildly alkaline pH (~7.8–8) and gradually decomposes into ammonia, CO2 and water, leaving no salts.
- Solubility: approx. 220 g/l in water (20 °C); insoluble in alcohol
- Uses: main component of the AB57 poultice (with EDTA, Desogen, CMC) for removing black crusts, gypsum and dirt from stone and wall paintings; saturated solutions in compresses for solubilising sulphates
- Store in a closed container in a cool place (slow decomposition)
