Waxy substance derived from the leaves and green parts of the plant Copernicia, which produces wax in Brazil. It is supplied as small, irregular, pale yellow flakes and is poorly soluble in solvents at room temperature; its solubility improves from 45 °C upwards. The carnauba wax is particularly durable and glossy and is added to other waxes to raise their melting point, hardness and gloss.
