Danchek strips were developed to monitor the rate of deterioration of cellulose acetate film («vinegar syndrome») in film archives. They change colour in the presence of acetic acid vapour according to the degree of degradation; the colour scale is used to assess the current condition and decide which films (photographic, cinematographic, microfilm) should be copied or moved to cold storage immediately. Also suitable for quick acetic acid checks in showcases.
