Protein-based adhesive, derived from fish skin and other fish by-products. Fish glue swells in water but does not dissolve, shows considerable moisture resistance and is reversible. It is widely used for surface preparation before gilding, as well as in various "colletta"-type formulations for restoring wall paintings and paintings on canvas or wooden panels.
